Fishing tips
Bare in Our Mind
1. When fishing a venue for the first time, be aware of the regulations controlling fishing. 2. Take your rubbish home with you! Do not spoil the beautiful riverbank, reservoir, lake, seashore etc. 3. Do not leave unwanted nylon on the bank side or hanging from trees or bushes. This mistake can trap other animals such as birds. 4. Please do not hesitate to ask for advice from those who are more experienced than you - usually the locals.
Tips for Fishing
Buy carefully. It is not necessarily to buy the cheapest of available range of fishing equipment. Go for good quality at a reasonable price. Good quality tackle is not cheap. After fishing trip check the reel and rod. This equipment needs to be wiping off bankside dirt for example gritty mud. While wiping apply a fine coating of oil. Same treatment for the rod ferrules too. In the heart of tropical forests there lives more than 300 species of fish. These entire creature share their home in this wide spread Lake in their own exotic and unique habitat. It is well known with its Toman, the greatest fresh water species. The lake also a sweet home for Kelah, Seberau, Baung, Tilapia, Tengas Daun, Kelisa, Tapah, Kalui, Belida and plenty others. These fish are highly demanded and people from all walks of life come here to experience and explore themselves in fishing. The best time for fishing is in the late evening or before the break of dawn. Normally the fishermen will leave their hook in the afternoon and come for fishing at night and return back on the next day by noon. Meanwhile, they believe during the full moon, the fishermen do not go fishing because of their believe that the fish is going into hiding. They will hang the line submerged at dawn and checked every two to three hours later.
The Tackle - Float Rods
Never buy the cheapest rod unless it is recommended. Tackle quality and cost go in hand so buy wisely. Rods or float fishing should be 12-13ft long to able for handling lines of 3-20lb breaking strain. For the beginner, they often use a glassfibre spinning rod because it is cheap, adaptable and sturdy. The general-purpose float rods are slower in action rather than match rods and have stronger tips. Made of glassfibre and 2.5-3 mm in diameter. While match rod is nearer 2.5 mm in diameter. It is recommend to use 9-18lb breaking strain line so it is stiffer in the butt to give quicker striking. Most of the float rods are made of tubular glassfibre. Usually rods for float fishing are equipped with cork handles fitted with sliding rings for holding the reel. As the result its will keeps the weight to a minimum. With a threaded tip ring fitted, the float rod may be used with various screw attachments. For the beginner it is recommend to use 12ft float rod length.
The Tackle - Ledger Rods
Ledger rods vary from 9ft to 11.5ft. The longer rods being used more by the specimen hunter and the shorter kinds by the competition angler. The longer rods are used to cast and to strike for the long-range fishing. The general purposes of 10-11ft are suitable for match ledgering. The rod should be fitted with graduated standoff rings with a screw-in tip ring which will accommodate any of the various attachments for bite indication. This type of rod requires the 10-18lb breaking strain line.
The Tackle - Spinning Rods
The original rods were heavy and long. Usually the spinning rods can be classified by the weight as they can cast and the line strengths the rod can handle. Their basic function being to cast a lure and to control a hooked fish. In general rule, the lighter the lure or spinner, it will be the lighter and shorter the rod. Or the lighter the lure, the line will be finer. This is due to the heavier and thicker the line the more weight is required in the lure to overcome the drag of the line. For the lighter spinning lure (up to 0.5 oz) 6-8ft long rod is used and teamed with fixed spool reels and 8-15lb breaking strain line. While for heavier lures, 8-10.5ft long rod is used and teamed with fixed spool or multiplier reels loaded with lines up to 20lb breaking strain.
